About This Dog

Beans's ideal home

Meet Beans! Beans is a gorgeous 7-month old Crossbreed looking for his forever home. Beans has come into us having been under-socialised, so he is incredibly worried. For this reason, we would be looking for homes with children 16yrs+ and potentially a calm, polite resident dog that is able to show him the ropes - although, he has shown some guarding behaviours around his kennel mates so meal times would need to be managed.
Beans is a sweet, but scared boy. Beans has been known to scream if approached too quickly, so any potential adopters would need to be aware that he is a particularly worried lad that needs lots of time and patience to approach you, and build that bond. With those he has had time to make friends with, he has given a few licks of hands but doesn't like quick movements.
Beans has never been walked on a lead before, so he finds this particularly overwhelming. He is frightened by the pressure of the lead and will freeze, so he will need lots of support and confidence building in this field.
Beans' ideal family will be one that is used to working with nervous dogs and who are willing to give him all the patience and time he needs to flourish into a confident young man.
He does want to explore new places, but is very apprehensive. He will not engage with his handler if he's worried, so someone who is able to go slow with him and work at his pace would be essential. Beans is very fearful of formal handling, and has been muzzled as a precaution. Beans would really benefit from a bond being built with a veterinarian so he doesn't feel so scared in that setting.
Beans is very food motivated, so this has been used in building bonds with handlers here at the centre. He will approach if ignored, and is happy taking treats if thrown near him. If rushed, he will become quite withdrawn and shut down.
We need Beans in a home where his adopters will be gentle, patient and kind. He will thrive in the right environment!

Could you be Beans's perfect match?

Beans really is such a sweet, beautiful boy. He really needs a home that is able to be patient, slow and kind with him. He is very unconfident in most, if not all areas and will need lots of support. Due to his background, he has not been house-trained or walked on a lead. He will need a good structure and routine in order to build confidence. He is a mix of very intelligent breeds, so we do think with his love of food, he will pick any training up quite quickly. He is a mixture of a Spaniel, German Shepherd, Collie and Dalmatian, so very high energy.
Once he has built his confidence, he will need lots of mental enrichment and physical to keep his busy brain entertained. Beans will really benefit from a quiet home where he can explore and become the bravest little angel we ever did see.
Any potential adopters should know that you may not be able to get much out of Beans in the centre but will need to have a few meets to build some familiarity.
We can't wait to see Beans become the bravest boy in his perfect home.
